Kolkata Knight Riders take on Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2012 finals! Wait is over, the speculations come to an end. IPL 2012 being the most open and most dramatic IPL of all times provided the best of entertainment to us right from day one! We never knew that Chennai Super Kings will enter the finals for third consecutive time and a total of fourth time in total five IPLs played so far! A bit of luck and swashbuckling performances in the last few matches have earned Chennai a place in the finals. Kolkata has been a good team right from the start and they picked momentum at the right time to never look back.

The final of IPL 2012 is being played in Chennai which is the home ground of CSK. So again an added advantage of home support for Chennai Super Kings. On this very venue day before yesterday they smashed Delhi Daredevils for more than 220 runs and registered a very big win. Murali Vijay clicked form with the quickest ton of IPL 2012. He was well supported by the other batsmen of CSK which helped them to register a mammoth score which Delhi never looked like achieving. 

Never say die attitude of Chennai Super Kings has come to their rescue. One more good match and they will be able to lift the IPL for third consecutive time! They forgot their performances in league stage that at times lacked lustre. They shined when it really needed. Apart from a strong batting line up the bowling department is variably decorated by quickies like Hilfenhaus, Bravo, Morkel, etc and the spin department is well taken care of by Ashwin, Jakati and Jadeja.

On the other hand Kolkata has been truly consistent throughout the league. KKR has a good variation in the bowling department as well. Balaji is well known for his slow deliveries which come unexpected and also his late swingers. Kallis is a very experienced bowler whereas Lee is the quickest of all. Sunil Narine has been the best of the lot who is unreadable at times and hence he clinches a lot wickets with low economy rate. 

Gautam Gambhir has handled the dual responsibility of leading the team and opening the batting very well. He has been the highest Indian run scorer in IPL 2012 and has been the major contributor in KKR's wins so far. Batting line up for KKR looks strong with the likes of Gambhir, McCullum, Kallis, Yusuf Pathan, etc.

As we all saw in the last match, the pitch here at Chennai will provide a lot of runs to the team batting first. Teams chasing in IPL 2012 have won more matches but it is advisable to win the toss and bat first in the finals as the pressure is immense while chasing.

• If Bangalore wins against Deccan Chargers and Mumbai loses against Rajasthan, Bangalore will take the third position and Mumbai will take the fourth position
• If Bangalore loses today and Mumbai wins, Mumbai will take the third position and Chennai will take fourth position as Bangalore will be eliminated
• If both Bangalore and Mumbai lose, still Mumbai finishes on third position and Chennai takes the fourth place

1st Match: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Deccan Chargers 

Royal Challengers Bangalore need to follow a very simple equation. If they win they are through to the play-offs and if they lose they make way for Chennai Super Kings to the next round. Bangalore registered a thumping victory over Delhi Daredevils where Gayle scored a quick fire century. This win has boosted their confidence. Deccan Chargers have played well recently and beating them won't be an easy job. On the other hand Deccan Chargers has nothing to lose. So they can play a role of party poopers.

Bangalore heavily relies on the batting of Gayle, Dilshan and Kohli. AB de Villiers is one of the best batsmen in cricket but he hasn't got enough chance to bat. So he may look rusty on the crease if other batsmen fail. Similar is the case of Deccan Chargers. The batting heavily relies on Shikhar Dhawan and Cameron White.

2nd Match: Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai Indians are already through to the play-offs and today's result doesn't matter to them. Even if they lose to Rajasthan they would finish fourth and have to play eliminator with the fourth team that will qualify for play-offs.

Rajasthan Royals made a flying start to this year's IPL and they could have been in the contention if they could have won the last match. But their defeat has eliminated them from IPL 2012. Michael Hussey, Faf du Plessis and lately Murali Vijay has provided good amount of runs whereas Raina and Dhoni haven't contributed to their potential. Morkel, Bravo and Jadeja have contributed some brilliant all round performances to take CSK home.

David Hussey is doing a pretty good job in absence of skipper Gilchrist. Shaun Marsh and Mandeep Singh are the two batting stars whereas Piyush Chawla, Azhar Mahmood and Parwinder Awana are doing brilliant job with the ball.

2nd Match - Delhi Daredevils vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore is a very popular team amongst the fans because it is fancied with the Gayle storm. Anyone and eveyone would love to watch Gayle while he bats. Similarly the team is full of other powerful hitters viz. Kohli, Dilshan and AB de Villiers. 

RCB is desperate for a win whereas Delhi is relieved with an assured place in the play-offs. RCB scored 170 plus but they lost to Mumbai Indians in the last match. So bowling for RCB stays inconsistent. Ideally RCB would prefer to chase rather than bat first.

Delhi Daredevils is over dependant on the top batting order. So this would be a good practice match for Delhi to try their middle order strength. Meanwhile Sehwag, Naman Ojha, Jayawardene and Warner can do a great job for DD.

Bowling is well managed by Zaheer, Muralitharan, etc. On the other hand Rohit Sharma from Mumbai has clicked form with one of the best T20 ton you would have ever seen. 2nd Match: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings

Defending champions CSK are left out with just one option if they need to qualify for next round - win everything that they play! So their path ahead is not easy. But they are the best team as far as bounce back is concerned. Beating KKR at the Eden Gardens won't be easy for Dhoni's XI.

CSK is high in confidence with a win over Rajasthan and table toppers Delhi. With 15 points from 14 matches, they have kept their hopes alive in the league. Bangalore crushed Mumbai Indians by nine wickets to move few steps ahead in points tally. Another good thing for them is return of Virat Kohli to some kind of good form. Muralitharan is doing a good job while Vettori has to sit to make way for him.


Bangalore's only problem is the over dependency on Chris Gayle. When he gets going no one can stop him and no one can stop Bangalore from winning. But the day when he fails, Bangalore seems to be under immense pressure. The only guy after him who comes to rescue is AB de Villiers. So if these two fail, Bangalore finds it difficult to take the match home.


Pune Warriors are languishing way down in the points tally after a series of few defeats. Now it is too difficult for them to bounce back and enter the play-offs. They can play for pride or to spoil party of some oppositions. Team hasn't created any wonders after the inclusion of Australian skipper Michael Clarke. Ganguly's low strike rate while batting has also been a negative factor in terms of recent outcomes.


We can't write off the strength of Pune Warriors because at any given day they can beat the best. So they can create an upset here by beating Bangalore. At the same time Bangalore won't take Pune lightly. They are well aware of the fact that every win takes them closer to the play-offs.

On the other hand Delhi has been the most dominating team this year. They lost their last match against Kolkata  Knight Riders to concede top spot to them. But Delhi has played one game less than Kolkata so they have an opportunity to topple them in terms of points after playing equal matches.

Delhi Daredevils' top order has performed upto the mark. Especially Virender Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen did a brilliant job before Kevin had to leave for England to play against West Indies. David Warner needs to perform well so that the team doesn't feel Kevin's absence. Bowling is well handled by Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan and Albie Morkel.

2nd Match - Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals

Chennai Super Kings didn't look like defending champions apart from a match or two. They are sliding down the points tally and the closest competitors are toppling them to climb up the standings. Rajasthan Royals is a team in good form and to beat them would not be easy in Jaipur.

Shane Watson hammered 90 runs in 50 odd balls against Pune Warriors to provide a brilliant win to Rajasthan Royals. Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane can provide a good support to Watson. Rajasthan's bowling has been pretty good so far.

Chennai needs to play every game from hereon as a must win encounter. They can't afford to lose any more matches. Batting had been good for them so far but someone like Raina or Bravo need to gain momentum. If they can win most out of the remaining four matches, they can very well find themselves in the play-offs.

Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore - A Must Watch

Lasith Malinga is in brilliant form with the ball and he receives a good support from Ojha, Munaf, RP Singh and Harbhajan.

Royal Challengers almost lost their last match until AB de Villiers came to bat. That was one of the best turn around one would ever see in T20 cricket. Once he came to bat he turned tables on Deccan Chargers and smashed every ball around the park. He scored 47 runs from just 17 balls! Dilshan and Gayle are doing a good job up the order. AB de Villiers need to bat up the order and Kohli can drop himself a bit down the order.

Vettori will need to make way for Murali again looking at his impressive bowling in last match. So in Vettori's absence, Kohli can again lead the team. RCB has lost two out of their last three matches and they are badly in need of wins now. 

Pitch here at Wankhede doesn't provide a high scoring game so it would again be tough for the batsmen to score easily. Bowlers may have a better day on this pitch. Hard to predict the winner but Mumbai will surely play under pressure at home and Bangalore will experience the pressure of a must-win situation.

There is a striking similarity between these two teams and that is "inconsistency". Both these teams have a lot of "match turners" but inconsistency has not allowed these teams to dominate this edition of IPL.

Mumbai Indians have certainly not performed to their potential and so is the case of Chennai Super Kings. MI has to win atleast 3 to 4 matches of their remaining 6 to make a place in the play-offs. Sachin Tendulkar has provided good starts to the innings but he couldn't convert his small scores into big ones. Rohit Sharma has been inconsistent throughout the tournament whereas Rayudu has been the most consistent guy with the bat. Mumbai's bowling has the upper hand. Lasith Malinga has clinched 17 wickets from only 7 matches as he missed out few due to an injury. Pragyan Ojha has been a good support to Malinga.

Chennai Super Kings registered a win against Deccan Chargers lately before they suffered some big blows at home. Chennai's batting highlight this year has been their overseas player Faf du Plesis. He has gathered 376 runs so far and is in the race of orange cap. Murali Vijay seems to have gained his lost form whereas Morkel and Bravo has always been a good contributor to the side with bat and ball. A lot is expected from Dhoni, Raina and Hussey if CSK has to thump Mumbai in Mumbai.

2nd Match - Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Deccan Chargers

Deccan Chargers has always seen themselves at the bottom of points tally this year and now they take on the most fancied team of 2012 viz. Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB finished runner ups last year and this year they haven't been able to repeat those winning performances.

Royal Challengers is a team which deserves a much better position than 7th on points tally. They are in the group of those teams who are sitting in bottom half of the table and eager to win all the matches they play. So this match is vital for RCB and they need to win this one. Again a lot depends on the performance of Zaheer Khan, Chris Gayle, Dilshan, Vettori and AB de Villiers. If this is a day of Virat Kohli then no one can snatch away a victory from RCB because when he gets going its almost impossible to stop him. He is still in search of his lost good form.

Deccan Chargers have nothing to lose and they can very well play the role of spoiling other's parties. Every match they win now on will shatter dreams of other team's to make into the knock out stages of IPL. Cameron White is in an emphatic form and so is Kumar Sangakkara.  We can't write off brilliant bowling of Dale Steyn as well. 

Although Royal Challengers look favourites to clinch this one, we won't be surprised if Deccan Chargers can pull out a surprise here and turn tables on Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kolkata Vs Pune and Punjab Vs Rajasthan - A Day to Relax and Enjoy IPL Action

If on a given day Gambhir fails, the team may land up in a problem. Gambhir badly needs a good support from Kallis, McCullum or Yusuf Pathan.

Pune Warriors have suffered four losses on the trot and now they will play every game with a mindframe to win it. But this adds on to the pressure as well. Ganguly has provided good amount of runs to his team but his strike rate is too slow for an IPL T20 format. He needs to pick up the strike rate. If batsmen like Robin Uthappa, Ryder or Clarke would click today; they may create a lot of trouble for Kolkata Knight Riders.

2nd Match: Kings XI Punjab vs Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have a story similar to Pune Warriors. Even they got a flying start to IPL 2012 but few losses in the row have put them in immense pressure. Above all Punjab has a good record at Mohali and Rajasthan has a poor away record. So hopefully we don't see a one sided affair here at Mohali.

Rajasthan Royals have always scored well but its just that they need to accelerate more so that the opposition cannot cope up with the run rate. Watson, Dravid, Rahane and Owais Shah hold the key to success for the Royals.

Kings XI Punjab have climbed up the points tally from nowhere. After the addition of Azhar Mahmood to the squad the team has looked better and better. Shaun Marsh and David Hussey will continue playing well and providing match winning innings. Piyush Chawla has been at his best in terms of economy rate. One more win here for Punjab and they would be a strong contender of making into the play-offs this year.

Hence the batting unit over depends on Dilshan, Gayle and AB de Villiers. Gayle has been the most prolific batsman for RCB scoring 336 runs from 7 innings with 25 sixes which is maximum by any batsman in IPL 2012. He is followed by Pietersen who has 20 sixes to his name. 

Gilchrist couldn't play last four matches for Kings XI Punjab due to an injury and his inclusion in the playing XI still remains a question. David Hussey has done a good job as Punjab's skipper in absence of Gilly. A similarity between Punjab and Bangalore's batting line up is its excessive dependability on few batsmen. Punjab depends a lot on Mandeep Singh, David Hussey and their most inform batsman Shaun Marsh. 

As far as Punjab's bowling is concerned, Piyush Chawla has clinched 11 wickets at a very low economy rate. Azhar Mahmood's addition to the team has been a blessing. He bowls superbly well in the death overs and provides a strength to the lower batting order. Praveen Kumar is a very good swing bowler but he has failed to prove his worth this year.

Three defeats on the trot has been a major setback for Rajasthan Royals. Especially the last defeat was heart breaking for Rajasthan as they lost it by just one run against Delhi Daredevils. As mentioned in the earlier posts, Rajasthan batting line up depends a lot on the openers Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane and also on Owais Shah. As Shane Watson has finished his tour to West Indies, he has joined Rajasthan Royals and may replace Kevin Cooper who is injured. Watson can bowl well and also add value to the batting line up if he can come on position 3 or 4.

Eyes would be set again on Virender Sehwag who has four half centuries on his name in this year's IPL. David Warner joins the team which makes the team even stronger. Once Kevin Pietersen leaves for his international commitments, hopefully Warner will fill his space. Pietersen has played a very vital role in Delhi's wins so far. The biggest success for Delhi this year has been Morne Morkel. He has 18 wickets to his name and the 'purple cap' too! Irfan Pathan and Umesh Yadav provide a good supporting role to Morne Morkel.

2nd Match: Deccan Chargers vs Pune Warriors 

 Pune Warriors have a story similar to Rajasthan Royals. Fans had least expectations from them but they turned out to be one of the most successful teams in first half of IPL 2012. But now both these teams have tasted few defeats which has brought a setback in their camp.

Pune Warriors travels to Cuttack to play Deccan Chargers after suffering a loss back home against the Chargers. They lost by 18 runs thus being the only team to lose against Deccan Chargers. Pune Warriors would hate to lose their winning momentum and they need few wins to ensure their position in the play-offs.

Deccan Chargers have lost everything except one match and one rain wash out. They have nothing to lose and as mentioned earlier, they can play biggest role of party spoilers! Two players in best of their forms from  Chargers are Shikhar Dhawan and Dale Steyn. One has single handedly managed to score freely and the other had clinched wickets without any firm support from rest of the bowling departmen.

Overall both the matches would be interesting as one team from each match is thirsty for a revenge and badly looking for a victory to move up in the points tally.

Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions have lacked form this year and their last loss was something which they could just blame themselves. It wasn't a match worth losing. The top order gave a good platform for the chase but the middle order threw away wickets and Chennai ultimately lost the match to Kings XI Punjab on their own home turf.

Faf du Plesis and Badrinath are in striking form. Bravo and Morkel still provide a good lower order support with a brisk scoring rate. Batsmen who have specially disappointed this year are Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni. CSK bowling still does better than the batting department. Bollinger, Morkel and Bravo provide a good variety  in the quickies. Kulasekara is doing a good job as well. Ashwin has managed to clinch only 3 wickets out of 9 matches that he has played which is disappointing.

Kolkata Knight Riders have won their past four matches. Gautam Gambhir has led from the front. His innings in the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore took his team home with a comfortable win. McCullum and Kallis have begun to contribute their part. whereas Yusuf Pathan and Manoj Tiwary's bad run continues. There is an obvious more consistency in bowling department with the likes of Brett Lee, Balaji, Kallis, Rajat Bhatia, etc.

It is very difficult to provide a prediction for this match. Chennai will have a home advantage but it will be very hard for them to beat the inform Kolkata team.

Kevin Pieterson who won't be playing too long for Delhi as he has to be a part of the series between England and West Indies, has also been in splendid form with the bat. He has played a vital role so far in Delhi's wins. Lately Delhi bowlers have given away loads of runs and things need to be strategised as far as bowling is concerned.


Rajasthan Royals have been a bit off track after getting a very good start to the tournament. Batting has depended a lot on openers Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane. The only other batsman who has been consistent is Owais Shah with 278 runs to his name. Bowling deparment has been more consistent. Apart from being a handy batsman, Kevin Cooper has bowled well to clinch 10 wickets in IPL 2012. Brad Hogg has been very good with his chinamen deliveries which are unplayable at times.


Delhi Daredevils being the team to beat nowadays seems to be the favourites for this match against Rajasthan Royals. So the prediction goes in favour of Delhi Daredevils who would also be a better knowledgeable team at their home ground.


2nd Match:- Mumbai Indians vs Deccan Chargers


Mumbai Indians are seeking redemption as they host Deccan Chargers. Mumbai Indians have suffered two heavy losses against Delhi Daredevils and its time for them to click form before its too late and they are out of the race for the play-offs.


Deccan Chargers have been the most out of form team this year and now they can play a role of spoiling parties for teams who are doing well. Mumbai Indians with 3 losses out of their last 4 matches eye their best opportunity to gain the lost form if they can beat Deccan Chargers in Mumbai.


Deccan Chargers clinched their first win of IPL 2012 against Pune Warriors and who knows this can bring them back in form! A team just needs one win sometimes to change the fortunes. CSK who are the defending champions have lacked lustre this year but as we all know they are the best team when it comes to bouncing back! They bounce back really hard just to clinch the finals! They are currently placed on the third position with four wins out of eight matches and a rain wash out against Bangalore. A win today can take them to the second position if Kolkata losses against RCB.

Chennai Super Kings has been benefited with some good wins against Rajasthan Royals and Pune Warriors in the last week. The batsmen in good form for CSK are Badrinath and Faf du Plesis. Suresh Raina is a star batsman for CSK and once he finds his lost form, the batting line up would look more dangerous. Albie Morkel, Dhoni, Bravo and Dhoni add up to the strength of this batting line up. Kulasekara, Bollinger, Morkel, Ashwin, Jakati, Jadeja and Yo Mahesh provide a huge inventory of bowling options to the skipper MS Dhoni. This team can still be considered as one of the favourites to go ahead and life the trophy.

Kings XI Punjab has had a miserable start to this year's league. But slolwy they are trying to gain the momentum. Although they are lagging behind on the second last position of points tally, but they are narrowly seperated from Mumbai Indians or Pune Warriors. A couple of wins can help them topple few teams on the points table. The pillar stones for Punjab's batting line up has been the Australian duo Shaun Marsh and David Hussey. Praveen Kumar couldn't clinch notable wickets so far but he can trouble Chennai batsmen with his swing bowling. Piyush Chawla was too expensive in his last match otherwise he is a good leg spin bowler to have in the team.

If we think of a prediction for today's match it seems Punjab would provide a good resistance playing away but finally Chennai will clinch a win here.

2nd Match:- Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Royal Challengers Bangalore are undoubtedly the most royal team amongst all. They have a royal batting line up which consists of match turners like Kohli, Gayle, AB de Villiers and Dilshan. This team has regained its form after a bad start to IPL 2012. They can't take things easy from hereon as even they are narrowly separated from other teams in the points tally. 

The Eden Gardens will observe a clash of heavyweights as both these teams have 9 points and a better net run rate keeps Kolkata above Bangalore. If rain doesn't play a spoil sport we all would enjoy a flurry of runs when batsmen like McCullum, Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan, Kallis, Gayle, Dilshan and Kohli would play to entertain the crowd.

Will this again be a day for Chris Gayle - the powerhouse or will it be someone like McCullum who would play a swashbuckling innings to take Kolkata home? Or will it be a day that would belong to bowlers like Brett Lee, Narine, Shakib Al Hasan, Vettori or Zaheer Khan. We all need to wait and watch!

Delhi Daredevils look invincible with star players in their team. Virender Sehwag looks in a sparkling form as he scored a very quick 87 runs against Pune Warriors. Kevin Pieterson is in brilliant form with 214 runs to his name in just five innings. Ross Taylor and Mahela Jayawardene are another two stars strengthening Delhi's batting line up.

Irfan Pathan and the purple cap owner Morkel provide good stability to Delhi's bowling unit. Umesh Yadav got a flying start to this IPL but in the last two matches he looked out of touch. This bowling unit of Delhi can put Mumbai Indians under pressure at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

Mumbai Indians clinched a good win against Punjab to get back to the winning ways. Rayudu, Rohit Sharma and Pollard are doing a good job with the bat. A good quick knock is awaited from Sachin Tendulkar. Mumbai's bowling has been completely distorted in the recent matches. Munaf Patel who looked in a very good form earlier leaked away loads of runs. Harbhajan Singh and RP Singh are not in the best of their forms. Absence of Lasith Malinga is clearly felt in the Mumbai's bowling camp.

Kotla's pitch looks flat and hence a high scoring match. This implies we all would enjoy a flurry of runs between two heavyweights viz. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils.

Rain is changing the course of this year's IPL. Couple of matches were washed out in rain giving a points each to the participating teams. Last night Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore gained a point each and entered top four in the points tally. Pune Warriors were placed in top three for a long time but now they have slipped down in the bottom half of points table. They take on Deccan Chargers at Sahara stadium in Pune. A good sign for Pune is that Manish Pandey is scoring well at the top with Ryder. Robin Uthappa and Steven Smith are in good form too. Alfonso Thomas provides a good potential in the bowling line up for Pune Warriors India.

Thanks to the rain, Deccan Chargers got a point thus opening their points tally account. Bowling still continues to be their biggest worry. It seems as if Dale Steyn is fighting a lone battle with the ball out there for Deccan Chargers. As far as batting is concerned Shikhar Dhawan is in a brilliant form with 200 plus runs. 

None of the other batsmen from Deccan Chargers has managed to score well. A lot is expected from Sangakkara and Duminy. Cameron White has failed with his performance this year. Deccan Chargers should look for options like Daniel Christian. 

Deccan Chargers will consider this as one of the last opportunities to bounce back. Once they lose two or three more matches they would find themselves out of contention and they will play a role of spoiling other's party.

Mumbai vs Punjab & Bangalore Vs Chennai - Two Big Matches Today

2nd Match: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings

This is going to be an outstanding face off. Whenever these two teams have played against each other, we have seen a flow of runs! Last time they played each other, we saw a mouth watering contest with Chennai chasing 200 plus runs to beat Bangalore.

Chennai Super Kings had a bad start this year but they managed to get on track. Francois Du Plesis is in exceptional form as CSK's opening batsman and he stands second on highest run scorer's tally. He is very much alive in the race of the 'Orange Cap' which is currently held by Rajasthan Royals' Ajinkya Rahane. Chennai has a long batting line up comprising of Raina, Dhoni, Bravo, Morkel and Badrinath. They also have a good bowling department consisting of Bravo, Bollinger, Ashwin, Jadeja and Jakati. Chennai still looks one of the favourites to clinch this year's IPL.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has a powerhouse called Chris Gayle who can be destructive today. He gets a very good support of another quick scorers like AB de Villiers and T. Dilshan. Once Virat Kohli would hit form, this team would look the toughest to beat.

Pune batting seems to be in good form with Ganguly, Ryder, Angelo Matthews, Uthappa and Steve Smith. Bowling looks fine with the likes of Ashish Nehra, Ashok Dinda, Angelo Matthews, Alfonso Thomas, Murali Karthik and Rahul Sharma. A couple of overs from Ganguly can come in handy.


Delhi Daredevils have to dare here at Pune to clinch a win to stay on the top. They are currently at the apex of points tally and they would love to stay there for which they need a win here at Pune. Morne Morkel leads the most wicket taker chart in IPL 2012 and holds the key in Delhi's bowling department. He is well supported by Umesh Yadav and Irfan Pathan.

2nd Match - Kolkata Knight Riders vs Deccan Chargers


Kolkata Knights Riders have four wins out of seven matches and Deccan Chargers have none out of their five matches. Couple of days ago KKR registered a pretty professional win against Deccan Chargers. These two teams meet again for an IPL face off at the Eden Gardens. 


KKR is slowly gaining the winning momentum and climbing up the points tally. Bowling is going well with Brett Lee, Balaji, Sunil Narine and Rajat Bhatia. As far as the batting is concerned, Gambhir looks in good touch with 200 plus runs in IPL 2012. KKR would be tempted to pick Shakib Al Hasan as the nature of the pitch would support his kind of player. McCullum and Yusuf Pathan's bad batting form still remains a worry for KKR.


Five losses in a row leaves Deccan Charges in loads of worries and the most desperate team looking for a win. For the first time their bowlers did well in the last match, but the batsmen failed to capitalise. Nothing is going right for the Deccan Chargers and they need to pull up their socks before its too late. KKR look favourites in this match but an inspiring win for DC can change the fortunes.

The top order for Rajasthan Royals consists of Rahul Dravid and Rahane. These two have provided good starts to the innings. Owais Shah, Brad Hodge and Kevon Cooper have provided a brilliant support for the middle order. A lot depends on Cooper, Hogg and Trivedi with regards to the bowling of Rajasthan Royals.


RCB looks strong on paper and hence the favourites for today's match. But if Rajasthan can get the wicket of Gayle early, they can turn tables on RCB. The pitch here in Jaipur promises us to provider another cliff hanger.

Above all its dependability on Sachin and Malinga is vulnerable. 92 all out against Delhi Daredevils was a big disappointment for the team. 


To add to their worries, last year's highest wicket taker and the most prolific IPL bowler Lasith Malinga has suffered a severe back injury and he flies back home to Srilanka. He won't be playing atleast for next couple of weeks. MI has won 3 out of 5 games and they badly need couple of more wins to get their winning momentum going on. 


Chances are high that Sachin Tendulkar will play today and this would be a big cheer in the Mumbai Indians camp. As far as bowling is concerned, in absence of Malinga a lot depends now on quick bowling of Munaf and RP Singh.


On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab have seen consecutive losses and they badly need a victory now. This team is over dependent on the performances of overseas players. Hussey would again lead the team in absence of Gilchrist. Hussey needs to strike well whereas Shaun Marsh is already in a decent form. 


Azhar Mahmood did a good job in death overs with his batting in the last match. He is a T20 match winner and he can do a lot for this team. Piyush Chawla looks promising whereas Praveen Kumar has not yet clinched a wicket in IPL 2012. 


2nd Match - Kolkata Knight Riders vs Deccan Chargers


Kolkata Knight Riders have not been able to convert good performances into wins. They stand on 5th position of points tally with three wins and three losses. They managed to win their last match against Kings XI Punjab. Batting looks out of form with Kallis and Yusuf Pathan yet to play to their potential.


Bowling department has saved Gambhir and company. Brett Lee, Narine and Balaji has done a very good job so far for Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR can't take Deccan Chargers lightly as one loss here can slide them down in the points table.


Deccan Chargers have been the most unsuccessful team so far in this year's IPL simply because they haven't won any match. Four straight losses in four matches for Deccan Chargers. Three out of those four matches should have ideally been gone into DC's pockets but their bowling has not been good in the death overs.


Batsmen like Shikhar Dhawan and Kumar Sangakkara have provided good starts to the innings. The team has managed to score big but apart from Dale Steyn none of the bowlers have performed well to anchor the match to a win.
