Delhi Daredevils lost their opening match to Chennai Super Kings by just one run! That could have gone their way too. Albie Morkel fought like a warrior against the franchise of CSK whom he played for years. Six needed in one ball - he smashed a boundary that fell just short of a six. Fortunes could turn with such a win against big teams like CSK but it didn't happen for Delhi. They are up against consistent Rajasthan Royals in front of their home crowd.

Rajasthan Royals made a successful start to their IPL 2015 campaign. They defeated mighty Kings XI Punjab in Pune by a good margin of 26 runs. After a shaky start, Rajasthan Royal's captain Smith anchored the innings. Good knocks by the lower middle order batsmen took RR to a good score. This was followed by some good bowling and fielding performances. Let us see who clinches this one at Ferozshah Kotla stadium.

One of the most fancied teams Mumbai Indians lock horns with Kings XI Punjab at Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians suffered a loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2015 opening match. They need to pull up their socks if they have to beat Kings XI Punjab.

Rohit Sharma smashed a good 98 just to see the team lose against KKR at the Eden Gardens. He would love to better his performance at Mumbai Indian's home ground. He would also expect some good performances from fellow batsmen and as well as the bowling line up.

Kings XI Punjab earned a lot of name, fame and fans last year when they dominated against every single team. Maxwell, Bailey, Sehwag and company marched to the finals with lot of wins. But they saw a defeat against KKR in the finals. Maxwell is due for a big one and so is Sehwag. Even the bowlers must have rolled up their sleeves for a win at Wankhede.

On one hand defending champions Chennai loses another match and on the other hand team that finished at the bottom last year viz. Delhi Daredevils proudly stands on the top of points tally so far! Credit goes to Delhi for their superb all round performance so far. We have two matches today where two teams would seek revenge. Rajasthan Royals would love to beat Delhi after tasting defeat from them in last match. Same is the case with Pune Warriors who tasted a loss against Deccan Chargers earlier.

1st Match: Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals

Three defeats on the trot has been a major setback for Rajasthan Royals. Especially the last defeat was heart breaking for Rajasthan as they lost it by just one run against Delhi Daredevils. As mentioned in the earlier posts, Rajasthan batting line up depends a lot on the openers Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane and also on Owais Shah. As Shane Watson has finished his tour to West Indies, he has joined Rajasthan Royals and may replace Kevin Cooper who is injured. Watson can bowl well and also add value to the batting line up if he can come on position 3 or 4.

Eyes would be set again on Virender Sehwag who has four half centuries on his name in this year's IPL. David Warner joins the team which makes the team even stronger. Once Kevin Pietersen leaves for his international commitments, hopefully Warner will fill his space. Pietersen has played a very vital role in Delhi's wins so far. The biggest success for Delhi this year has been Morne Morkel. He has 18 wickets to his name and the 'purple cap' too! Irfan Pathan and Umesh Yadav provide a good supporting role to Morne Morkel.

2nd Match: Deccan Chargers vs Pune Warriors 

 Pune Warriors have a story similar to Rajasthan Royals. Fans had least expectations from them but they turned out to be one of the most successful teams in first half of IPL 2012. But now both these teams have tasted few defeats which has brought a setback in their camp.

Pune Warriors travels to Cuttack to play Deccan Chargers after suffering a loss back home against the Chargers. They lost by 18 runs thus being the only team to lose against Deccan Chargers. Pune Warriors would hate to lose their winning momentum and they need few wins to ensure their position in the play-offs.

Deccan Chargers have lost everything except one match and one rain wash out. They have nothing to lose and as mentioned earlier, they can play biggest role of party spoilers! Two players in best of their forms from  Chargers are Shikhar Dhawan and Dale Steyn. One has single handedly managed to score freely and the other had clinched wickets without any firm support from rest of the bowling departmen.

Overall both the matches would be interesting as one team from each match is thirsty for a revenge and badly looking for a victory to move up in the points tally.

They lead the points table right now and they have a very good chance of reaching the play-offs. Captain Sehwag has led from the front opening the innings for Delhi Daredevils and has hit three consecutive half centuries with a very good strike rate. His 39 balls 73 runs innings against Mumbai Indians was a treat to watch. Kevin Pieterson who won't be playing too long for Delhi as he has to be a part of the series between England and West Indies, has also been in splendid form with the bat. He has played a vital role so far in Delhi's wins. Lately Delhi bowlers have given away loads of runs and things need to be strategised as far as bowling is concerned.


Rajasthan Royals have been a bit off track after getting a very good start to the tournament. Batting has depended a lot on openers Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane. The only other batsman who has been consistent is Owais Shah with 278 runs to his name. Bowling deparment has been more consistent. Apart from being a handy batsman, Kevin Cooper has bowled well to clinch 10 wickets in IPL 2012. Brad Hogg has been very good with his chinamen deliveries which are unplayable at times.


Delhi Daredevils being the team to beat nowadays seems to be the favourites for this match against Rajasthan Royals. So the prediction goes in favour of Delhi Daredevils who would also be a better knowledgeable team at their home ground.


2nd Match:- Mumbai Indians vs Deccan Chargers


Mumbai Indians are seeking redemption as they host Deccan Chargers. Mumbai Indians have suffered two heavy losses against Delhi Daredevils and its time for them to click form before its too late and they are out of the race for the play-offs.


Deccan Chargers have been the most out of form team this year and now they can play a role of spoiling parties for teams who are doing well. Mumbai Indians with 3 losses out of their last 4 matches eye their best opportunity to gain the lost form if they can beat Deccan Chargers in Mumbai.


Deccan Chargers clinched their first win of IPL 2012 against Pune Warriors and who knows this can bring them back in form! A team just needs one win sometimes to change the fortunes. Will Deccan Charger be able to capitalise on that win still remains a big question. With the likes of Tendulkar, Harbhajan, Franklin, Pollard, Malinga and Rayudu, Mumbai Indians seems to be the favourites tonight but Deccan Chargers will play without any pressure and hence they may find themselves in the driver's seat!
