Mumbai Indians pulled a surprise win last time against Bangalore where Pollard and Rayudu played brilliantly. Before that Rohit Sharma scored a sparkling ton against Kolkata. So Mumbai has lately regained the winning momentum and that too at the perfect time when we are into the final stages of IPL 2012. Malinga will enjoy home turf to bowl harder and disturb wickets with his unplayable yorkers.


On the other hand Kolkata has receives two blows one against Mumbai and the other against Chennai. So it is an alarming situation for Kolkata to regain the lost form before its too late. They need to give their best before entering the play offs if they have to reach finals or clinch IPL trophy. Gambhir has scored majority of the runs for KKR and once he fails the team looks a bit helpless. Kallis, McCullum or Yusuf have played well in patches but they need to equally contribute runs for the team. Sunil Narine is a gem of a bowler and KKR is lucky to have him. Brett Lee is doing a good job with the ball.


Pitch here at Wankhede may not provide a lot of runs but it will surely provide an even face off between batsmen and the bowlers.

If we compare these two teams Kolkata is a better outfit due to their phenomenal form whereas Mumbai is still struggling with inconsistent performances. They suffered a bad loss against Bangalore at home due to the unstoppable Gayle storm. A win here would be a good confidence booster for Mumbai Indians.

Kolkata has not lost a single match since last one month and compared to Delhi they are in a slightly better form as they also defeated Delhi in their last face-off. The man leading this team from the front is Gautam Gambhir. He has scored 457 runs and is one of the leading run scorers this year. Lately he has received a good support from Kallis and McCullum. Bowling wise Sunil Narine is almost unplayable and he claimed 15 wickets so far. Rajat Bhatia has bowled well in the middle overs to restrict the run flow.

For Mumbai, it is of utmost importance that all their batsmen contribute well to score big even if they bat first or second because Kolkata has a good batting line up too. Malinga is doing a brilliant job with the ball but he needs an equally good support from Harbhajan, Munaf Patel and company.

2nd Match - Delhi Daredevils vs Chennai Super Kings

Two time defending champions Chennai Super Kings is still struggling with uncertainties of reaching the next stage. Their batting has disappointed the fans in last three to four matches. Fortunately Morkel and Srikanth came to the rescue in last match and clinched a win from nowhere against Rajasthan Royals. This win helped them to climb up couple of positions in points tally. It is almost a must win for Chennai here against Daredevils.

Delhi managed to defeat Chennai at the Kotla stadium last time when they played each other. Today's match gives Chennai the home advantage if they can capitalise on it. If Chennai bowls first they need to ensure that they don't allow Sehwag, Taylor, Warner and Jayawardene to settle for too long. Chennai are among the good chasers and a low score will fetch them a win.

David Warner smashed a big century in last match and he would be the man to watch alongwith the swashbuckling Sehwag. If these two get going from the start, Chennai's hope would reduce to stay alive in the league. Both the teams have good bowlers who can trouble the opposition batting line ups. This match is certainly going to be a nail biter till the end!

Wasn't the 1st qualifier a pure nail biter? Yes it was! The way CSK changed gears after 10 overs to clinch a surprising win against RCB was just astonishing. CSK has already earned a place in the finals and proved their worth of being the defending champions. RCB isn't eliminated yet as they will now play the winner of today's eliminator MI Vs KKR. The team that loses today will be eliminated from IPL 2011.

These two teams last met just couple of days ago when things were pretty much in KKR's pockets. But unfortunately Balaji leaked too many runs in the last over to give away the match to MI. A brave effort from MI to win that one. Tonight MI plays in their home ground with a huge fan support coming along their way. A win here in a sort of virtual quarter final would bring a festive mood in Mumbai.

MI had completely dominated the first half of this year's IPL with 8 wins from their first 10 matches. In the later stages they lost three matches due to which they lost the top position in the points tally. A win against KKR in the last round robin match took them to the 3rd position. For Mumbai Indians, the batting responsibility depends a lot on Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu. Power hitters like Pollard and Symonds haven't impressed much with their batting. Bowling looks very good with Malinga, Harbhajan and Munaf in good form.

KKR could have easily made to the first qualifier toppling CSK if they would have just managed a win against MI in their last match. Overall, this team has performed better than expectations. Gambhir being the new captain for this side, has led from the front. Kallis, Tiwary and Pathan has played a vital role too. Bowling needs to improve a bit in crunch times.

MI Vs KKR - Decider for the second spot on the IPL points table

Earlier today RCB defeated CSK and cemented their top spot in the points table. CSK is currently placed on second spot. But as the title of this post says, MI Vs KKR will be the ultimate decider for 2nd spot.

Lets have a look at the permutation and combination. If KKR wins, they will topple CSK and take 2nd spot because of their better net run rate. If MI has to take the second spot they have to win with big margin because they are lagging behind in net run rate when compared to KKR and CSK. So the road ahead is tougher for MI.

But one thing both the teams don't have to worry about is, both have already qualified to the next round. Its the effort to make it into top 2 as 1st qualifier acts as an easier way to enter finals.

When DC defeated KXIP, MI were confirmed in top 4. MI needs to come out of their three on the trot defeats and display some good cricket here. They have the strength in the form of Sachin Tendulkar, Rayudu, Pollard, Symonds, Harbhajan, etc. Time to capitalise.

KKR is in striking form with Gambhir, Kallis, Tiwary, etc. Bowling is good with Pathan, Shakib-al-Hasan, Abdulla, etc. About the history of these two teams, MI have won 5 and KKR has just managed to win one.
