This is easily the most fancied matches of IPL 2012 because it consists of most popular team Mumbai Indians and the two times IPL winner Chennai Super Kings.

The defeat of Bangalore against Deccan Chargers made way for Chennai into the play-offs. Otherwise Chennai as a team hasn't played upto their potiential. They have been in the top four teams all the IPL years so far. They have reached the IPL finals thrice out of four and won two of them. So they are the team to beat all the way long. Now they have nothing to lose. They may have lost hopes of making it into the second round. But the luck has favoured them. Now its time for them to convert this into a win and once again progress to the finals.

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni are yet to showcase their brilliance and this is the best opportunity. They are big match turners and they can play innings of their IPL careers to take the team to the finals. Albie Morkel and Dwayne Bravo need to repeat one of those good all round performances to take the team home. Ben Hilfenhaus has been upto the mark with bowling and he needs to continue his good line and length in the eliminator.

Mumbai Indians finished third in the points tally and missed the entry to qualifier just by one point. So they are here placed in the eliminator against Chennai. Mumbai Indians played exceptionally well against Rajasthan Royals in the last league match and won the match by ten wickets. Sachin and Smith took the team home with some sensible batting till the end. Mumbai has good players like Gibbs, Franklin, Rohit Sharma, Rayudu, Pollard who all are well capable of producing match winning T20 performances. Their ace bowler Lasith Malinga can easily turn tables on the opposition.

The venue for this match is M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore which is a flat track supporting the batsmen more than the bowlers. So we can expect a high scoring game here. It is hard to pick up any team as favourites here as Mumbai Indians are in a better form whereas Chennai Super Kings are renowned to play well in the final phases of the league.

IPL 2012 finally has its four top teams to feature in the play-offs. The format doesn't consist of semifinals but play-offs which is fair for top two teams and more interesting ofcourse. Top two teams viz. Delhi and Kolkata plays in the 1st Qualifier at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune. The winner of this match will directly qualify for the finals to be played at Chennai. The team that would lose this qualifier would play the winner of eliminator match (Mumbai vs Chennai). That would be the second qualifier and the winner will qualify for the finals.

Delhi has topped the table and has easily been the most dominating team of IPL 2012. Kolkata Knight Riders were separated just by one point as one of the matches of KKR was washed out due to rain. Although these two teams have registered comprehensive wins throughout but few losses in the final phase of IPL has been an eye opener for them. 

Twenty20 being a format of cricket which consists only 20 overs, the opening stand plays a vital role. We have some explosive openers in both the teams - Sehwag and Warner for Delhi - Gambhir and McCullum for Kolkata. Virender Sehwag scored five consecutive half centuries and Pieterson played a very important role in Delhi's wins before he left for England vs West Indies test series. Warner played an explosive innings in the league matches where he scored a quickfire ton. McCullum couldn't manage a big score for Kolkata so far but we all know his explosive batting. Gambhir has scored the majority of runs for Kolkata Knight Riders.

This match would also display a tight competition between two bowling sides. Especially a performance clash between KKR's Narine and DD's Morkel. These bowlers have caused lot of trouble to the opposition team and have clinched a lot of wickets. Meanwhile there are other good players in both the teams to watch out viz. Jayawardene, Taylor, Brett Lee, Kallis, etc.

Statistically both these teams have done a good job in their own ways. Delhi Daredevils have lost only 76 wickets in their 15 league matches of IPL 2012. They have scored at a rate of 8.3 runs per over. Meanwhile KKR has been the most economical bowling unit in IPL 2012. 

Pune's wicket may not produce a very high scoring game but certainly it will provide a good tussle between bat and the ball. Let us see which of these heavyweights to clinch a win and register a place in the IPL 2012 finals.

The venue for this match is Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad which also is the home ground of Deccan Chargers. This team has provided a brilliant batting display in most of the matches but have failed to defend mammoth totals. The bowling line up is too fragile to defend even big scores. If they had some good bowlers we could have seen this team in the race of play-offs as well.

Rajasthan Royals has impressed everyone the way they won against fancied teams of IPL. But they would also blame themselves of letting away some matches that they could have won. Dravid, Rahane, Watson, Owais Shah, Hodge and many more to name; have equally contributed in Rajasthan's good run so far.

Similarly from the opposition Cameron White, Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, etc have played a vital role but imbalance in the batting and bowling department couldn't fetch too many wins to the Deccan Chargers. Rajasthan Royals would play as the favourites today but anything is possible on a given cricketing day. Deccan Chargers may come up as winners and finish the Royals' hopes of reaching the play-offs.
