Gujarat Lions will kick off its IPL journey today and this match would be of such a great significance to them. Raina and his men, with a soul of ertswhile Chennai Super Kings would play their heart out to register a win in their first match. The team boasts of some prolific T20 players. With the likes of Raina, Bravo, McCullum, Finch, Faulkner and Jadeja; they are certainly a strong outfit.

Kings XI Punjab have had too many ups and downs in last two years. 2014 was a prolific year for them. They marched ahead to the finals like anything. Sehwag, Miller and Maxwell were on a roll. Especially Maxwell was hitting all the bowlers out of the park. They were unstoppable. They won 11 out of 14 matches that year.

But fortunes turned the other way round. They lost 11 out of 14 matches in IPL 2015. They finished at the bottom of the table. Miller and Maxwell were not in form. Nothing went their way last year.

The good part is, Kings XI Punjab tasted equal success and failure in last two years. So this year they can be well prepared with a solid strategy. They would be facing a new entrant today which has its own pros and cons. While Gujarat Lions is a completely inexperienced team with a relatively inexperienced skipper too, the same team would play freely as they have nothing to lose.
