Cricket is back home for India. Sri Lanka tours to India for a T20 series that would include three T20 matches. Now the Indian fans would be served with 'only' T20 cricket till the end of IPL 2016. The India vs Sri Lanka T20 series will be followed by the Asia Cup 2016 and then the eagerly awaited ICC T20 World Cup 2016 tournament in India. The venue details and schedule is provided below:
1st T20 match will be played at Pune on 9th February 2016. The second T20 match will be played at Ranchi on 12th February 2016. The third and the final T20 match will be played at Vishakhapatnam on 14th February 2016.
Sri Lanka's regular captain and one of the most prolific all rounder in today's cricket Angelo Mathews will not play due to injury. Dinesh Chandimal will take his position for this series. The star batsman Dilshan is also unfit and might also miss the first T20 match of ICC T20 World Cup 2016. There are many young players in the T20 side of Sri Lanka. Few of them can emerge as big players for the nation. Playing in India would earn them a good exposure and they might do well in the T20 world cup also.
For India, the star player Virat Kohli has been rested for the series. He has had a tiring tour to Australia where he was one of the best batsmen throughout the series. After consistently scoring runs in the ODI series, he played even better in the T20 series and grabbed the man of the series award.
Ajinkya Rahane makes a comeback in place of Virat Kohli. Well known for his consistency and class, Ajinkya Rahane has a point to prove. Although he has a good IPL record, he will have to play couple of good innings to seal his position in the playing XI. The presence of hitters like Dhawan, Rohit and Kohli generally makes him difficult find a place in the playing team.
The Indian bowlers, especially the slow bowlers would enjoy the conditions here in India. Unlike in Australia, they would get more support from the pitches here. Even the Indian batsmen would get an opportunity to face some quality spin attack from Sri Lanka. This would again be a good preparation ahead of the ICC T20 event.
