CB Series Match No. 7 Update
Half way down the mark in this CB Series, India is on top position with 10 points. Australia is placed on 2nd position with 9 points followed by Sri Lankans on 7 points. We never imagined the teams would be so narrowly separated by points at the half way mark. But that has happened and this makes the series more enthralling. All the teams would feel the pressure of somehow extending the lead and stay on top of points table.
India plays Australia at Gabba today which happens to be the 7th match of this series. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. David Warner and Matthew Wade gave a flying start and shared a partnership of 70 runs in 13 overs. Warner was quick with 43 runs from 46 balls before he was out on a loose shot off Irfan's bowling. Ponting looked over cautious and out of form again as he played some weird shots and ultimately returned to pavilion with 7 runs from 26 balls.
After a quick start by the Australians, the Indian bowlers has tightened the grip and reduced the scoring rate. The overall run rate now stays near 4 runs per over. A lot depends on Forrest, Wade and Hussey brothers now. If atleast any two of them stay on pitch for a long time, Australia will reach a respectable total of somewhere arouund 250.
India fielding has been exceptionally good today with Jadeja, Kohli, Sharma and Raina diving around and saving runs. This has been a big difference for India in this CB Series where these four have save atleast 20-30 runs in every match.
Cricket this year has been full of weird instances. India losing to Australia in test series very badly but bouncing back hard to stay on top at half way mark. And now India playing with 4 pacers and Australia pitching in 3 pacers. That is weird as well.
Commentators had to say again that this is a typical Gabba wicket which will offer good bounce to the bowlers which in turn helps the batsmen for good stroke play. Thus this match will promise an even competition between bat and ball and this is what we spectators wish to see! Will this be another match where we would see a finishing touch from Dhoni? Not to forget he averages over 100 in last few matches and is in great form, so is Gautam Gambhir!
